A lot of the Instagram bio ideas you'll find are cute one-liners that tell a stranger nothing. A bio for a business has a harder job: in the two seconds before someone scrolls away, it has to say who you are, what you offer and what to do next. Below is a short formula for that, the limits Instagram sets today, and 63 bios grouped by niche that you can copy and adapt.

The four-part formula for an Instagram bio that works

Every good business bio answers four questions, usually in this order.

  1. Who you are. In plain words, the way you'd say it to someone at a party: "Wedding photographer", "Neapolitan pizza", "Nutritionist". Not "capturing love stories".
  2. What you offer. The specific thing, for the specific person: "cuts for curly hair", "online consults", "homes in Lisbon and Oeiras".
  3. Proof or personality. One detail that makes it believable or memorable: a place, a year, a number, a quirk. "Family-run since 1978" beats "quality you can trust".
  4. A call to action that points at the link. Tell people what happens when they tap: "Book a table", "Is your date free?", "Shop the new drop". An arrow pointing down at your link helps.

You won't always fit all four. When you must cut, cut the proof, never the first line or the call to action.

Instagram bio limits in 2026

A few rules to know before you start writing, each checked against Instagram's own pages.

That last point is why "Ana · Wedding Photographer" in the name field works better than "Ana" alone. Put the thing people would search in the name, and the details in the bio.

Each bio is written as one line with " · " between the parts. On Instagram, turn each " · " into a line break: one idea per line reads faster. All of them fit well under 150 characters.

Content creators

Restaurants, cafés and bars

For the page behind that link, the restaurant template puts booking, menu and hours in that order.

Beauty salons, barbers and nail studios

Shops and makers

Coaches, trainers and health professionals

Real estate agents

Photographers

Musicians and DJs

Freelancers and consultants

How to make a copied bio sound like you

A copied bio is a starting point. Three edits make it yours:

  1. Swap the generic word for the specific one. "Food" becomes "grilled fish", "photos" becomes "elopements", "coach" becomes "career coach for teachers".
  2. Add one true detail. Your street, your year, the thing clients always mention. It's the part nobody else can copy.
  3. Make the call to action match the first link. If the bio says "Book a table", the first thing on the page behind the link should be the booking button, not your Facebook.

If you'd rather start from your own words, the Instagram bio generator asks what you do, where, and what people should tap, and writes several versions that fit the limit.

Fancy fonts, highlight covers and the rest of the profile

Styled fonts: use them for decoration, not for words that matter

The bold, italic or cursive "fonts" you see in some bios are usually Unicode characters that look like bold, italic or cursive letters. They come from blocks such as Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols, which means a styled "A" is a different character from a normal "A".

That has two costs:

My rule: a styled word or two as decoration is fine. Your name, your niche and your call to action stay in plain text. If you want to try it, the Instagram fonts tool shows your text in 30 styles so you can pick one for a single line.

Highlight covers finish the job your bio starts

Right under your bio sit your story highlights, the natural next stop for a new visitor. A row of matching covers labelled "Menu", "Prices", "Reviews" and "Bookings" answers questions your 150 characters can't. The highlight cover maker makes matching covers in your colours from icons or a short word.

Every bio above ends by pointing at the link. You can use a single website, or up to five links on the profile, or one link in bio page that holds everything in the order you choose. Stories can also carry a link sticker, which is handy when a post is about one specific thing.

If you want to see how a page behind the link can be laid out for your niche, I wrote up link in bio examples for 14 niches, each with what goes first and why. And the full step-by-step for adding the link to your profile is here.

Questions

How many characters can an Instagram bio have?

Up to 150, according to Instagram's Help Center. Spaces, emoji and punctuation all count, so every word has to earn its place.

Should I put keywords in my Instagram bio?

Yes. Instagram says search matches your query against usernames, bios, captions, hashtags and places, and recommends keywords about what you do and your location in the bio.

Are fancy fonts in an Instagram bio a good idea?

Use them sparingly. Styled letters are different Unicode characters, and screen readers may read them as symbol names or skip them. Keep your name and keywords in plain text.

What should the call to action in my bio say?

Say what happens when people tap: book a table, check a date, shop the new collection. Point it at the link in your profile.
