How to use it

  1. 1

    Pick the platform

Instagram or TikTok. The typical ranges differ: TikTok usually shows higher rates.

  2. 2

    Type your followers

The number on your profile. It sets the size group your rate is compared with.

  3. 3

    Add a few recent posts

Likes and comments at least; saves, shares and views if you have them. Three to twelve posts make a fair average.

  4. 4

    Read the result

Your rate by followers and by views, where it sits against accounts your size, and what to look at next.

How the engagement rate is calculated

Engagement by followers is the average number of interactions per post — likes, comments, saves and shares — divided by your followers, times 100. It is the figure brands and agencies usually ask for, because it says how much of your audience reacts to what you post.

Engagement by views divides the same interactions by the views of those posts. It is fairer for Reels and TikTok, where most views come from people who don't follow you yet, and it is the figure TikTok creators usually quote. This calculator shows both when you give it the numbers.

What counts as a good engagement rate

There is no single good number: engagement by followers falls as accounts grow. A small account where friends and regulars see every post can reach 3 to 5% on Instagram, while accounts with hundreds of thousands of followers are doing well above 1 to 2%. TikTok rates are usually higher than Instagram's for the same size.

That is why the result is compared with accounts of your size, in ranges rounded from industry reports of recent years. Niches differ too — food, fitness and parenting tend to engage more than news or finance — so treat the range as a reference, and your own trend over time as the real benchmark.

Where to find your numbers

On Instagram, open a post and tap View insights (a professional account shows it; switching is free). You'll see likes, comments, shares, saves and views or reach. On TikTok, open a video, tap the three dots and then Analytics. Use recent posts of the same kind, not a single viral one, and skip paid promotions: they inflate views and lower the rate.

How to raise it

Comments grow when captions ask something easy to answer. Saves and shares grow with content people want to keep or send: tips, lists, before-and-afters, short tutorials. Posting when your audience is online, replying to comments in the first hour and using the first second of a video to say what it's about all help the platforms show the post to more people.

Buying followers is the quickest way to lower the rate: those accounts never interact, so every post is measured against people who aren't there. Brands check it, and a smaller, engaged audience is worth more to them.

Private by design

Nothing is fetched from Instagram or TikTok and you don't log in anywhere: the calculation runs in your browser with the numbers you type, so it works for private accounts and for any account you manage. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is this engagement rate calculator free?

Yes. No login, no limit and nothing to connect. Use it for your account or for any account whose numbers you have.

What is a good engagement rate on Instagram?

It depends on the size of the account. Roughly 2–5% for accounts under 10k followers, 1.5–3.5% up to 50k and 1–2.5% up to 500k. Above the range for your size is good; below it is a hint, not a verdict.

What is a good engagement rate on TikTok?

By views, 3–9% is a common range. By followers it varies more, because TikTok shows videos to many people who don't follow you yet.

Should I use followers or views?

Both, for different questions. By followers says how much of your audience reacts; by views says how well a post works with whoever saw it. Brands often ask for the first; TikTok creators usually quote the second.

Why don't you fetch my numbers automatically?

Because it would mean logging in or scraping, which breaks often and doesn't work for private accounts. Typing a few numbers takes a minute and keeps them private.

How many posts should I use?

Three at least, twelve at most, all recent and of the same kind. Leave out a one-off viral post or an ad: they distort the average.

Do saves and shares count?

Yes. They are the interactions platforms value most today, so the calculator adds them when you have them. Without them the rate is a little lower, like the ones calculated from likes and comments only.
