How to use it

  1. 1

    Say what you do

In a few words: “wedding photographer”, “vegan bakery”, “Pilates teacher”. Add where and something you're proud of if you like.

  2. 2

Pick the tone and the call to action

Professional, friendly or fun, and what you want people to tap: your links, a booking, your shop or a message.

  3. 3

    Copy the one you like

Every bio fits Instagram's 150 characters. Change a word or two so it sounds like you.

  4. 4

    Paste it on Instagram

Open Edit profile, paste it in Bio and save. The line breaks stay as they are.

How to write a good Instagram bio

A good bio answers three questions in the time it takes to scroll past: who you are, why someone should follow or buy, and what to do next. Start with what you do in plain words — “wedding photographer in Porto” works better than “capturing love stories”. Then add one piece of proof or personality: a number, a place, a speciality. Finish with a call to action that points at your link.

You have 150 characters, so every word has to earn its place. Line breaks help: one idea per line reads faster than a paragraph. And be specific. “Pilates for beginners, small groups” tells the right person they're in the right place; “living my best life” tells nobody anything.

Name, bio and link: what goes where

Instagram search looks at your username and the name field, not your bio. So put your main keyword in the name field too: “Ana · Wedding Photographer” is found by people searching “wedding photographer”, “Ana” alone is not. Keep your @username simple and easy to spell.

The bio is for people who already found you. The link is where they act — and Instagram gives you one link in the bio (up to five on some accounts, shown behind a tap). That's why most creators and businesses use a link-in-bio page: one link that opens a page with everything — booking, shop, WhatsApp, latest video.

Business or personal bio?

A business bio is a small shop window: what you sell, where, how to buy or book. Opening hours, the area you serve and delivery belong here more than jokes. A creator bio is more about the promise: what kind of content, how often, why follow. A personal bio can be whatever you like — a few interests, a place, a line that sounds like you.

Whatever the account, change your bio when things change: a new collection, a launch, an event. An up-to-date bio with a clear next step converts far better than a clever line from three years ago.

Emoji, line breaks and fonts

Emoji work well as bullet points: 📍 for a place, 👇 pointing at the link, one icon for what you do. More than three or four and the bio starts to look noisy. Line breaks typed in the Instagram app are kept; the bios here are already split into lines, so they paste in the same shape.

Want your name in a different style? Our free Instagram fonts tool turns text into bold, script and other styles you can paste into your name or bio. Use them for a word or two, not the whole bio: screen readers and Instagram search read plain letters best.

Common mistakes

Being vague is the most common one: a bio that could belong to anyone. Close behind come a call to action with nowhere to go (“link below” with a dead link), a bio stuffed with hashtags (they aren't clickable in a bio unless they are your own branded one), and details that are out of date — an old price, a closed address, last year's event.

Check your bio as a stranger would: on a phone, in two seconds. If it isn't clear what you do and what to tap, cut words until it is.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How long can an Instagram bio be?

150 characters, including spaces, emoji and line breaks. TikTok allows 80. Every bio this generator writes fits Instagram's limit and shows its length.

Is the bio generator free?

Yes. No sign-up and no limit on the templates and ideas. The AI-written bios, when available, have a small daily limit per device.

How do I add line breaks to my Instagram bio?

Copy a bio from here with its line breaks and paste it in Edit profile → Bio. In the app you can also type a new line with the return key.

What should I write in my Instagram bio?

What you do, one detail that makes you credible or memorable, and what people should do next — usually tap your link. Be specific and keep one idea per line.

Should I use emoji in my bio?

A few, as signposts: a pin for your location, a hand pointing at your link. Three or four is plenty.

Can I put more than one link in my Instagram bio?

Instagram shows one link in the bio, with up to five on some accounts behind a tap. A link-in-bio page like Linktotem gives you one link that opens a page with all of them.

How do I change the font of my Instagram bio?

Instagram has no font setting, but you can paste styled Unicode letters. Try our free Instagram fonts tool, then paste the result into your bio or name.
